Bulgaria
is one of the first countries that gives the beginning of organized
volleyball movement. Bulgarian Volleyball federation is second
in the world. Bulgarian national teams have 1 silver and one
bronze medals from olimpic games, 1 gold and 4 bronze medals
from world competitions and 1 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals
from european cups.
Last medal won by Bulgarian volleyball team, was
in 2006 year, on the world competition in Japan. There Bulgarian
won bronze meal. In 2007 Bulgaria made a great match versus
Brazil, but a little chance missed in the second match versus
Russia, and Bulgaria stopped it presentation in the group stage.
The competition was won by Brazil, and Bulgaria brought the
only loose of the latino team.
Volleyball came in Bulgarian in 1922. Even still
not so popular in the world volleyball had a big popularity
in Bulgaria. In 1942 is organized the first National Volleyball
Championship. The first participation of the Bulgarian national
team for men was in 1949 in Prague. There Bulgarians took bronze
medal, the first in the story for Bulgarian Volleyball. There
are also some bronze medals for the team in in Moscow (1952),
Paris (1986) and Tokyo (2006). In 1970, Bulgaria is host of
world championship in Sofia. There our team got silver medals,
and was just a step from the gold. In that championship, Bulgarian
team is consisted of Dimitar Karov, Vasil Simov, Zdravko Simeonov,
Dimitar Zlatanov, Alxander Trenev, Stoyan Stoev, Brunko Iliev,
Kaloyan Slavov, which are among the best player at that year.
Coach of the team is Dimitar Grigorov.
The year 1994, Bulgarian national team is included
among the beat teams of the world, in the most commercial competition
of the world - World League. On the first time, Bulgarian team
finished on the 4th place. part of the team were Lubo Ganev
and Martin Stoev. The latter is now coach of Bulgarian national
team.
